Ronnie, 74, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2016. The son of David and Zelma Mays, Ronnie was born on Oct. 26, 1942 in Throckmorton, TX. After joining the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1967, Ronnie served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was Staff Sergeant E-6 for the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division also known as the “Big Red One/Black Scarves” and earned three Bronze Stars for Bravery. Upon his return from Vietnam, he met his wife Marita and they were married on May 23, 1970. Ronnie resumed his work with the OCFD and was soon promoted to Driver and eventually Captain, a role he held until his eventual retirement on Jan. 5, 1987. During his days off from the Fire Department, he owned a construction company which he continued after his retirement from the OCFD. He proudly served his Lord as a Deacon for First Baptist Church of Piedmont and was Chairman of the Building and Grounds committee when the present building was built. Ronnie was responsible for bringing the Vietnam Wall to Piedmont in 2009 and led the crew that erected it on the High School Football Field. He loved spending time at the lake and enjoyed his family immensely. Special Thanks to his physicians Dr. Glen Hyde, Dr. Ron White and Dr. Johnny McMinn. Ronnie is survived by his wife, Marita; son Ryan and wife Lisa; son Mike and wife April; grandchildren Claire, Chloe, Caroline and Lucas; brothers Larry and Kenneth; and sister Patricia.
