Obituary for Socorro Stringer

Socorro H. Stringer, 63, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on June 27, 1955. She grew up in Mexico as she lived with her Grandmother, then moved to California as a teenager to be raised by her Godparents, Celica and George Espinoza. She married the love of her life, Thomas Stringer, on November 1, 1978, and had three sons, Marco, Daniel, and Joseph (Joey or JoJo). The family later moved to Watonga, Oklahoma where she raised her kids and worked at the Watonga Public Schools and the Watonga Hospital. In 2013, she moved to Piedmont, Oklahoma. Our Heavenly Father opened His arms to welcome His child on March 12, 2019. Socorro’s life cannot be defined or explained with these words, you simply had to know her. Her Christian faith was her foundation for everything in her life. She defined selflessness by putting everyone else’s needs above her own. When Joey was born with Cerebral Palsy, she did not shy from the task of caring for his every need for 35 years. She raised disability awareness by convincing the school to start a special needs class, but she would never admit to being the driving force behind it. Her infectious smiles always put everyone in a better mood because they were warm and sincere. Socorro loved sunflowers which reminded her of the sun, and the color yellow was her color for happiness. While she loved being a mother, she truly cherished her title of “Abuelita”. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Even when it hurt, she demanded their bear hugs and wouldn’t hesitate to get on the floor and play with them. She had an incredible crocheting talent and taught her granddaughters the skill. She taught us all humility, kindness, patience and unselfishness with words and through her actions, often taking the grandkids to nursing homes to hand out crocheted gifts. These are just small examples of what defined her life. Those that truly knew her, know her legacy and know the void she leaves behind. Joey arrived before his mother into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Socorro is survived by her husband of 40 years, Thomas Stringer of the home, son Marco and wife Tonya Stringer, son Daniel and wife Ashley Stringer, and her four nietos (grandchildren), Jordyn, Blake, Ashlyn and Dylan. As she said often, “It’s not goodbye, I’ll see you later.”
